Liesbeth Doornbosch investigates the imaginary in space and environment. She analyses how we outline our surroundings inspired by our own personal experiences. More so than generations before us, we nowadays have the time and resources to observe ourselves. Our current time is characterized by individuality and introspective consideration of one’s own thoughts and emotions. For Liesbeth Doornbosch an important question arises, one she calls the nature of place: who and where am I? Even in this global and virtual time, the so-called unity of place, time and action is seen as an inseparable entity. By creating scenery, a story is generated and vice versa: by telling a story scenery is conceived. This thus makes us aware of our own personal surroundings and our unique particular existence. In the creation of the works, a fictional architect and his archive play an important role. Within his invented studio, this failed architect is thrown between nostalgia and utopia, endlessly searching for an experience of location where renewal and tradition are in balance. The archive presents Liesbeth Doornbosch with manifold ideas, stories, sketches and images based around different facets of the world around us; it forms the basis for her investigation into the archetypal nature of place.
